As a DAIHEN Smart Solutions Europe project, an automated laser welding system was implemented at RATIONAL GmbH to address skilled labor shortages and ensure consistently high-quality stainless-steel components. The solution enables efficient, precise, and scalable production for demanding commercial kitchen applications.

RATIONAL needed to automate welding and handling of thin stainless steel components to increase production throughput, ensure consistent high quality, and address skilled labor shortages – all while meeting strict hygiene and aesthetic standards.

Solution: 

A fully automated laser welding system featuring:

  • OTC FD-V210 robots for material handling,
  • OTC FD-V166 robots integrated with laser welding optics,
  • Four laser welding cells supplied by eight material stations,
  • A central PLC control for synchronized processing,
  • RMU (Robot Monitoring Unit) for safe, repeatable robot positioning.

 

This setup enables precise, oxidation-free welding of thin stainless steel without deformation, suitable for various cooking chamber sizes and models.
