our History

Starting with power distribution systems for industry and components for solar energy generation, DAIHEN Corporation today is one of the world's largest manufacturers of robots, arc welding and plasma cutting machines, as well as components for the automation of welding technology and material handling. This is how it started.

1919

Foundation of Osaka Transformer Corporation in Osaka, Japan.
Specialised production of power transformers begins.

1934

The production of electric welding machines was initiated.

1981

Launching first arc welding robot system.

1982

Foundation OTC DAIHEN EUROPE GmbH in Mönchengladbach, Germany.

1988

Launch of the “Almega" robot series (5-axis hybrid and 6-axis) – representing a new generation of DAIHEN industrial robots.

1989

Start of production of wafer-transfer robots for semiconductor manufacturing, marking DAIHEN’s expansion beyond welding automation into clean-automation applications.

1991

Introduction of the first multi-robot coordination control system “Synchro Motion”, enabling synchronized movement and cooperative operation between multiple robots.

1997

Introduction of the “Almega V120” robot with a 120 kg payload capacity – expanding the product line toward higher payload handling, not only welding applications.

2011

Introduction of the new robot generation “FD11”.

2009

Introducing Lorch SpeedPulse: the first speed process for faster pulsing without loss of quality.

2010

Lorch launched the first inverter with patented MicorBoost technology. The patented MicorBoost technology works like a car's turbocharger: maximum power is extracted from a very small space. This helps inverters to achieve an almost ideal welding characteristic.

2011/12

Lorch launched five new processes for more efficient welding – so-called "Masters of Speed" processes: SpeedRoot, SpeedCold, SpeedUp, SpeedArc and Speed-TwinPuls.

2013

Official launch of five Welbee inverter welding power sources (three standard inverter models and two pulse-inverter models).

2013

Introduction of the SynchroFeed short-arc welding process.

2014

Acquisition DAIHEN VARSTROJ, Slovenia, with focus on production tasks, such as manufacturing welding and CNC cutting machines, as well as robotic welding and cutting cells and robotic carriages and positioning technology.

2016

Opening of the OTC DAIHEN EUROPE branch office in Munich, Germany.
Primarily serving as a showroom, it displays not only welding robots and welding technology, but also the whole portfolio of DAIHEN Corporation, including semiconductor manufacturing and energy distribution systems.

2016

OTC has started selling wireless power transfer systems.

2018

With the introduction of the Lorch Cobot Welding Package, Lorch is a pioneer in the field of welding cobots.

2019

LASOtech Systems GmbH, a leading German specialist in robot system integration, has joined our group. They specialise in automation projects involving laser processing, handling, welding and sealing.

2020

Launch of Lorch Connect - an innovative, simple cloud solution to make welding production digital and transparent.

2021

Introduction of the current robot generation “FD19”.

2022

With Femitec GmbH, Germany, as a new member, the group can expand its field of activity and benefit from Femitec's expertise in robot simulation, manufacturing, commissioning, programming and maintenance of automation solutions and complex fixture construction.

2022

Official launch of OTC's ARXIS pulse inverter welding power sources (three standard inverter models and two pulse-inverter models).

2023

By acquiring Lorch Schweißtechnik GmbH, a leading German supplier of digitalised arc welding technology, the Group is combining its expertise to develop more advanced welding automation solutions, ranging from powerful industrial robots to intuitive cobots.

2024

With the acquisition of Dutch system integrator Rolan Robotics BV, the group is strengthening its position in the European robotics and welding market. Rolan Robotics specialises in welding and product handling systems using robotics applications.

2024

Lorch has set a new benchmark in industrial welding with its iQS series — the first fully networked welding system to be produced by the company.

2025

Under the umbrella of DAIHEN Smart Solutions Europe, the six subsidiaries of the DAIHEN Group combine their expertise in integrated robot and welding technology.
